Not just for special occasions or gifts to others, floral arrangements can instantly add color, life, vibrancy, personality and a welcoming touch to any room. No one knows this better than local floral designer and owner of Flower Bar Co., Shawn Chamberlain.
On a typical day, you’ll find Shawn at her shop inside Fernweh Lifestyle Co. in Midway, Utah or arranging romantic displays for weddings and events in the Park City area. Over the next few months, Shawn will also be bringing her green thumbs (and exuberant self) right here to Victory Ranch for a series of pop-up events.
During each pop-up event, members are invited to come and purchase fresh flowers for their home—curated and arranged to their liking on the spot. “No appointment is needed,” says Shawn. “Pull up a barstool and chat with me while I arrange something beautiful for you.”
Much like her arrangements, Shawn evokes a warm, welcoming environment at each pop up. Aside from taking home beautiful flowers, visitors to her shop and pop-up events simply delight in seeing the shop set up—and she values the personal interactions with each visitor. “I love to have the members stop and watch me work, ask questions and just enjoy being there,” she says.
During each pop up, Shawn will arrive with a variety of beautiful flowers, natural elements and presentation options and will work with you to bring your vision to life. “I offer gathered, hand tied bouquets wrapped in paper (the member can select what to add to it),” she says, but notes a secondary (and often more popular option): “I bring a great selection of vases to arrange in and you can even bring me a vase from your home for something custom.”
Shawn sources locally when possible (certain flowers are dependent on season), as she’s committed to supporting local farmers and growers. “Of course, I love bringing beautiful flowers in from all over too!” she notes, which allows more variety and flexibility in her offerings. One unique varietal she’s seeing a big interest in lately is the “Heart of Gold” rose: “[It’s] the most beautiful, soft golden mustard color with a blush pink undertone—it’s stunning and so fun to see my client’s reaction to a unique color.”
Truly an artist, Shawn leans toward unique, “out of the box” flowers, designs and elements. “I like to add unexpected touches: herbs, fruit, dried elements. I’ve even added cherry tomatoes once and my client was like, ‘are you kidding me!’ They loved it.”
While tomatoes might not be for everyone, she’s certain she’ll be able to create something with and for you that you’ll love. “My artistic design leans towards a lush, gathered, organic style,” she says. “I don’t like my designs to be too fussy and really, I just let the flowers do what they do best! My rule of thumb is that I don’t design anything that I wouldn’t personally love to receive myself, so chances are: you’ll love it. And since extravagant, diverse bouquets aren’t for everyone—Shawn will happily craft simple classics: “who doesn’t love a vase full of fragrant garden roses? Always a crowd favorite.”
Interested in creating your own floral arrangements? Shawn will be hosting classes and workshops for members throughout the summer (details to come). She’s also available for private group classes (think: ladies’ night) and one-on-one instruction “for those wanting to dig in a little more. (did you get that? that was a pun..ha).”
