Congratulations to Mark Lampert (member) and Blake Maxfield (guest) for winning the 2017 Outlaw Member-Guest Golf Championship at Victory Ranch. Each takes home an Uberti 1860 Army Black Powder Revolver as the grand prize. Finishing second was the team of Bill Engvall (member) and BJ Szafan (guest). Mark and Blake won in dramatic fashion after tying on the final hole 18 and going to sudden death on hole 16.
This year’s Outlaw was one for the books. We had a total of five flights and 30 teams in this year’s event, with all flights coming down to the final match. The event started off with a welcome dinner at the Freestone Lodge coupled with some friendly wagering. On Friday, the competition got underway with three matches, and at the end of the day, there was no clear dominant team.
Our Friday night dinner on the range was a stellar time for camaraderie, cocktails and friendly competition. Alongside a Surf and Turf dinner, we held a Long Drive competition, Closest to the Pin and the Longest Putt competition. As our Golf Pro Chris Brandenburg shared, “The overall atmosphere was incredible and unlike anything I’ve experienced before at Victory Ranch. It was truly an amazing time.”
On Saturday, we hosted our final two matches, and by the end of those, we had our four flight winners. Two of the flights were decided by just a half point, and we also had one tie for the winner of the 4th flight between the team of Chris Lampert/ Pete Hobbs and Jerome Hall/Brian McQuire. The sudden death alternate shot playoff between these two teams ended in a dramatic tie on hole # 1 so we went to the second playoff hole 2. Chris Lampert and Pete Hobbs played amazing alternate shot team golf to par the hole and win the fourth flight.
The Outlaw Shootout to determine this year’s champion would begin on hole 16 with our Flight winners:
Championship Flight: Brian Ehman & Chris Hendrickson
1st Flight: Bill Engvall and BJ Szafan
2nd Flight: Buzz Warner and TJ McGeean
3rd Flight: Mark Lampert and Blake Maxfield
4th Flight: Chris Lampert and Pete Hobbs
The competition during the shootout was tremendous, and in the end, our final hole was against 1st flight winner Bill Engvall and BJ Szafan and 3rd Flight winners Mark Lampert and Blake Maxfield. The teams ended in a tie on the final hole 18, so they headed off to hole 16 for sudden death, with Mark Lampert and Blake Maxfield triumphant.
