Summer trips may be on hold for most Americans this year, but one family at Victory Ranch doesn’t have to leave home to enjoy an idyllic camp-style retreat. Recently profiled in House Beautiful, a newly finished mountain manse designed by Marie Turner Carson of M. Elle and architect Bob White of Forest Studio presents a fresh take on the traditional cabin theme at Victory Ranch. 

Tucked into the mountains and surrounded by trees, the open-concept home shows off an unconventional layout with guest rooms that feel like separate cabins, making it the perfect home base for a multigenerational family that loves to entertain. Rather than envisioning a traditional lodge, White worked with local builder Ivan Broman to dream up a compound-style resort with geometric structures that surround connecting courtyards.

From almost every room, large glass windows frame the rolling landscape beyond. An understated entryway that offers a glimpse of the central courtyard leads to the living room, where a floor-to-ceiling fireplace serves as the main focal point. A sculptural steel wood wall mirrors the steel casing on the door and brings a sense of modernity and balance to the space. Large glass windows overlook the free-flowing river as well as the outdoor fire pit and guest porch.

The home’s dramatic, midnight black dining room is stationed in a cantilevered hallway that connects separate rooms of the house. Just outside, an alfresco dining area shows off a custom 16-person dining table surrounded by benches and chairs for flexible dining. In the kitchen, a round island facing glass windows offers 180-degree views of the river. Stone walls and a muted palette create an Alpine feel in the main bedroom, while cot-like beds in the bunkrooms conjure up images of summer camp for younger family members.
